A late 19th century Goldscheider bronze figure of a semi nude boy triumphantly running with a rooster under his arm. After the famous statue by Jean Alexandre Joseph Falguiere titled 'Victory In The Cockfight'. Signed and foundry stamped to the foot, and raised on a grey marble base.

Alexandre was born in Toulouse, France, in 1831. He went on to study at École des Beaux-Arts in Paris then later in Rome Italy. It was here in 1864 that he created the original larger than lifesize statue 'Victory or Winner In The Cockfight' which won 1st prize at The Salon. It was later exhibited at the 1867 Exposition Universelle, where it again won a 1st class medal. It was finally exhibited in 1889 Exposition Universelle in Paris before being acquired by The Louvre. The original statue now resides at Musée d'Orsay.

It is interesting to note that the original piece was completely nude. But it was felt that for commercial success the boys modesty should be protected and subsequently the smaller productions of the subject were covered at the waist. This particular figure was cast by the Goldscheider foundry in Austria at the end of the 19th century.
