A 19th century Chinese marble bust of the immortal Lü Dongbin, set in a hardwood stand.
Lü Dongbin (796 CE – 1016 CE) is one of the eight legendary Chinese immortals, He was a scholar and poet who lived during the Tang dynasty. His lifetime is thought to have spanned two hundred and twenty years. He was elevated to the status of an immortal in the Chinese cultural sphere by the Daoists. Lü is also a historical figure and mentioned in the official history book History of Song. He is widely considered to be one of the earliest masters of neidan.
